At the Slush event in Helsinki on Wednesday November 19, John Martin, CEO at Sanoma Learning, presented the seven trends shaping the future of learning. Slush is one of the leading startup and technology events in the world with more than 13,000 attendees from 79 countries in the 2014 event.
Slush brought together people wanting to build the products, services and companies of tomorrow. The audience at Slush was a mix of entrepreneurs, employees from startups and technology companies, creatives, business developers, managers from various industries, students, journalists, investors, innovation ecosystem activists, government officials and politicians.
In his speech John Martin inspired the audience – 1200 people present at the event and approximately 6000 people watching the speech live online – with seven trends shaping the future of learning, like the change from input to impact, from classroom to borderless and from 20th century to 21st century learning. He invited the participants to join Sanoma Learning in making a positive impact on the next generation of learning and teaching.
Sanoma Pro, one of Sanoma Learning’s subsidiaries, took also part in this prestigious event by launching its EnhancEDU programme. Through this programme, Sanoma Pro aims to accelerate the digitisation of learning in Finland while also offering a wider selection of learning materials for schools and out-of-school learning products for the Finnish market.
The purpose is to produce digital learning solutions in cooperation with start-ups that develop educational content and learning tools. The launch event at Slush offered interested start-ups an opportunity to meet Sanoma Pro experts and discuss customers’ needs and expectations. In 2015, the EnhancEDU programme will organise four pitching events where start-ups can present their business ideas to Sanoma Pro. As well as being aimed at Finnish companies, these events are intended for international companies interested in operating in Finland. Sanoma Learning’s international network can help companies expand into new market areas in the future.
“We are passionate about education and keen to play a leading role in building the next generation of innovative, digital solutions. To accelerate the development of innovative learning products we are very interested in working with start-ups. In the Learning Lab programme we see many innovative ideas that have real potential of being developed into learning products for use in schools. This new EnhanceEDU programme from Sanoma Pro is another initiative that will accelerate the development of learning solutions that will have a great impact on learning.” says John Martin, CEO at Sanoma Learning.
