Scandinavia’s largest newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat will shift to tabloid as part of the renewal of its overall format and content, the Sanoma Oyj board decided today. The first tabloid issue will be published on Tuesday, 8 January 2013.This renewal is a part of HS multi-channel development with the goal of providing Helsingin Sanomat’s content to readers in their desired format. The renewed HS offers efficient, highly functional, overall solutions with good penetration for advertisers."The development of our printed and digital products is the state of the art in the industry. Helsingin Sanomat is a good example of how a comprehensive and multi-channel product range caters to the needs of all customer groups," says Sanoma News CEO Pekka Soini."This is one of the most significant changes in the paper's history and the paper will also have a new  design. The new size makes for a clearer structure in the entire paper and individual spreads, while maintaining the editorial strengths of Helsingin Sanomat: reliability, independence, diversity and journalistic excellence," says Mikael Pentikäinen, editor in chief of Helsingin Sanomat. The tabloid project was announced in February. During the spring, pilot magazines were read and commented on by more than 1,500 readers at HS events."During the preparation, we have received lots of good feedback from readers and advertisers. Based on that, I rest assured that the new HS will bring joy to a multitude of people," says Mr Pentikäinen.Additional information:Pekka Soini, CEO, Sanoma News, tel. +358 400 427 835Mikael Pentikäinen, Senior Editor-in-Chief, tel. +358 40 504 1944Hanna Johde, Communications Director, Sanoma Oyj, tel. +358 40 673 8977Sanoma News is the leading newspaper publisher in Finland, and its products in both print and digital format have a strong presence in the lives of their readers.
