Johan Merlevede (1964) has been appointed as chief commercial officer at Sanoma Learning as of 1 December 2011. Johan holds a Master’s degree in Classical Philology (University of Leuven) and gained a post-graduate degree in Business Economics (University of Antwerp).

For the last four years, Johan has been managing director of Van In, Sanoma learning’s educational publishing company in Belgium. Before that he held different senior marketing management functions, both in B2B and B2C, at the Belgian telecommunications companies. Prior to this he worked for Xerox in different sales, marketing and business management functions.

The position of chief commercial officer is a new function, created after the move of COO John Martin to the Sanoma Group. All the companies of Sanoma Learning are transforming their strong textbook business towards new solutions and new business models. Developing and executing this strategy of transformation will be the CCO's key responsibility. We believe that the Learning business will be able to grow and continue to add value to our customers by adding many new (digital) functionalities to our offerings. The CCO will also be responsible for creating and establishing a new Tutoring business line across the Group.

With his previous experience Johan will be a valuable addition in the management board, to further develop and execute this growth and transformation strategy together with the local management directors and management teams.
