Sanoma Magazines has set up a Knowledge Centre headquartered in Budapest, where the Mobile Media Unit of the New Media Division shall develop mobile applications for Sanoma.

"Mobile devices are becoming an increasingly important medium for Sanoma Magazines. Apart from browsing, users are very interested in mobile-based applications. Sanoma Budapest has so far launched four applications, all of them very popular, and therefore Sanoma Magazines decided to set up a centre in Budapest for the development of mobile applications," says Tamás Szépvölgyi, Director of the Knowledge Centre.

"The centre shall carry out mobile developments for the Hungarian market, and also for other Sanoma countries, including Russia, the Netherlands and Finland".

"Mobile Media Unit focuses on developing platform-independent applications. In each country we develop applications for mobile devices which have significant market share, such as iPhone, Nokia, Android platform, Samsung and HTC. We are flexible when it comes to screen size. Nowadays not only handheld devices but also tablet computers, such as iPad, are very popular. We have to find out what form of publication is the best for these devices, and what content readers like to read. So, this is going to be some sort of experimental development".

The Knowledge Centre started operating at the end of the spring, with a development team that manages existing mobile applications. It still has openings for talented developers.

"We look for ambitious people with strong programming skills who want to participate in the development of a new interactive media language and develop the media types of the future," Szépvölgyi says.

Sanoma Magazines is a leading publisher of consumer magazines and digital media that actively connect with a potential audience of 290 million consumers in more than 10 European countries. Sanoma Magazines is a division of the Sanoma Group.
