Jonge Gezinnen (Young Families), a subsidiary of Sanoma Uitgevers, announced that they have acquired Babygids (Baby Guide). Babygids is a free regional pocket guide for expectant mothers and families with young children. Babygids is published by Mediadam.

The acquisition of Babygids fits within the strategy of Jonge Gezinnen and Sanoma Uitgevers to service its customers with the best content in specific fields of interest like Parenting, Food, Home and Automotive. Jonge Gezinnen already publishes magazines like Ouders van Nu (Parents Today) and the recent launch Kek Mama. The company also organises the Jonge Gezinnen Beurs (Young Families Fair) and manages several Parenting websites.

Babygids is distributed annually through 300 maternity clinics in 12 regional editions with a total circulation of 100,000 copies. "Babygids is an excellent addition to the existing portfolio of Jonge Gezinnnen. We will get even closer to our target audience through this acquisition, the distribution via midwifes and the regional character of Babygids," Henk Roelofs, CEO of Jonge Gezinnen the acquisition welcomes.

Mediadam will publish Babygids' 2009 edition together with Jonge Gezinnen. From 2010 onwards Jonge Gezinnen will publish Babygids on its own. The acquisition will not lead to any redundancies at publisher Mediadam.

Sanoma Uitgevers is part of the SanomaWSOY Group's magazines division, Sanoma Magazines.
