Veli-Pekka Elonen LL.B, MBA (40) has been appointed President of WSOY, the book and educational publishing division of the SanomaWSOY Group. The appointment is effective from October 1, 2006. Elonen currently acts as Vice President, Development and Legal Affairs for Sanoma Corporation and President of Sanoma Data Oy in Sanoma Corporation, the newspaper division of the SanomaWSOY Group.
Elonen has worked for Sanoma since 1998 e.g. as Vice President, Legal Affairs and Vice President Administration. He has been Vice President, Development and Legal Affairs since the beginning of 2005. Furthermore, Elonen has been member of Sanoma's Management Group for several years and is also a member of numerous boards within Sanoma Division.
Before joining Sanoma, Elonen worked as an attorney for Asianajotalo ANPR Oy, as well as in various development and service positions. In addition, Elonen has been a member of the board of the Association of Finnish Media Employers (VTA) since 2003 and Chairman of the Committee of National Collective Negotiations for the Federation of the Finnish Media Industry since spring 2006.
In addition, Touko Siltala, Literary Director, has been appointed as deputy of the President. Siltala will also continue as Literary Director.
Jorma Kaimio, the current President of WSOY, will retire as planned on September 30, 2006.
