Helsingin Sanomat Oy, part of the SanomaWSOY Group, has completed the acquisition of Radio Helsinki Oy, a local radio station company operating in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Condition precedent was fulfilled when the Government approved on 26 May 2005 the change of the actual license holder of Radio Helsinki.

The acquisition will strengthen Helsingin Sanomat's cross media strategy. It is also in line with the SanomaWSOY Group's strategy to operate widely in the various fields of media in Finland and to focus its international expansion on magazines, educational publishing, and press distribution.

Radio Helsinki has five employees and 40 contributors. The channel established in 2000 has about 50,000 unique listeners per week. Radio Helsinki's frequency is 95.2 MHz and in HTV's cable network 104.0 MHz. It can also be listened at www.radiohelsinki.fi.

Helsingin Sanomat Oy is part of Sanoma, the newspaper division of the SanomaWSOY Group. SanomaWSOY published a release about the acquisition on 29 April 2005.
