Movie theatre operator Finnkino will build its newest multiplex theatre to Oulu, Finland. The construction of the theatre will begin during spring and the multiplex theatre will open at the end of 2006. The multiplex center will include eight screens with a total of 1,200 seats. The biggest theatre will seat 400 persons.

The multiplex in Oulu continues Finnkino's operations to develop the Finnish movie theatre scene. During the last years, Finnkino has concentrated to building its movie theatre chain in the Baltic countries - Finnkino's multiplexis offer entertainment to people in Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia) and Vilnius (Lithuania).

- For us, Oulu is significant step in the domestic field. After five years of concentrating on the Baltic countries, we now must also invest in Finland. Oulu is the starting point of the Finnish development: the construction will soon begin also in Lahti and we are currently negotiating on other cities as well, explains President of Finnkino, Timo Mänty.

The multiplex in Oulu will be Finnkino's fifth multiplex theatre in Finland. The theatres will include state of the art technology as well as seats planned so that all movie theatre guests have a similarly good view to the screen. In addition, the film offering will become more varied thanks to multiple screens.

- Our five year experience proves, that the total number of viewers has increased significantly in those cities where a multiplex is located - both in Finland and the Baltic countries. For us, this shows that our customers value a modern and high-quality movie theatre with varied service offering, Timo Mänty says.

Finnkino is part of SanomaWSOY's Division Rautakirja.
