Finnkino opened a new multiplex in Vilnius, Lithuania on 24 January 2003. The second multiplex in the Baltic countries is called Forum Cinemas Vingis. The first multiplex, Forum Cinemas, was opened in March 2001 in Tallinn. With its 996,000 visitors in 2002, this Finnkino’s concept has proved to be successful.
The new multiplex in Vilnius has been built in connection of an old movie theatre. It has 9 screens and 1,800 seats. The old part of the multiplex is now under construction and will be opened wholly renovated in May 2003 with 3 more screens as well as restaurants and other services. Totally the multiplex will have 12 halls and 2,500 seats.
Finnkino has subsidiaries in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Motion Picture Distribution of Estonia (MPDE) has two theatres in Tallinn and one in Tarto. Baltic Cinema SIA in Latvia has three theatres in Riga and a new 14-screen multiplex with 3,000 seats as a joint project with Stockmann under construction. The multiplex will be opened during autumn 2003. In Lithuania, UAB Vingio kino teatras has one theatre in Vilnius.
Finnkino is the biggest cinema operator in Finland. Finnkino has nine movie theatres with 69 screens in nine cities in Finland. The cities are Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lahti, Oulu, Pori and Rovaniemi.
