Sanoma Learning, one of Europe’s leading learning companies, announces that its Belgian subsidiary VAN IN launches its completely renewed digital exercise platform bingel. As of this school year, bingel is also available on tablet.

In Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium, seven out of ten primary school pupils use bingel to do exercises both at home and at school. Furthermore, over half of the teachers use bingel to give pupils suitable exercises and homework. Now that the digital trend in education is gaining ground, the successful bingel exercise site has gone a step further. From 1 September, bingel is completely renewed and expanded. Teachers will have extra tools to make it easier for them to monitor pupils individually and pupils can discover exciting and motivational sequel stories and new worlds. Since bingel can also be used on a tablet, this will give children extra encouragement to practise even more.

Bingel also for tablet

From this school year onwards, schools are working on a completely new bingel platform. Each school year has its own exercises on its own island with its own atmosphere and sequel stories. The varied exercises and the automatic level adjustment mean that doing exercises online is feasible and stimulating for any child.

And now bingel is also available on tablet. This not only makes it even easier and more enjoyable to do exercises, but VAN IN also expects that this will lead to a considerable rise in the number of completed exercises. After all, more and more schools are investing in ICT and tablets, and it is also possible for children to do some more exercises at home on the tablet.

70% of pupils and 80% of primary schools use bingel

Last school year, 280,000 pupils did their homework and exercises digitally on bingel. This accounts for 70% of all Flemish children between the ages 6 and 12. Over 370 million exercises have been completed since the launch in 2011. On an average school day, pupils do two thirds of all exercises voluntarily.

Not only pupils, but also teachers are now advocates of the virtual world of exercises. About 80 % of Flemish schools already use bingel. Many teachers have helped to devise the new modules. This means that user-friendliness and intuition are key words in bingel.

Teachers get more out of each pupil with just one click

The new functions in bingel make it easier to bridge differences in levels between pupils from the same class. For example, with this differentiation technology teachers have more options to monitor pupils individually with just one click. Teachers immediately have a complete insight into which children need extra help or which ones need more stimulation. This means it is possible to stimulate and motivate each child on his or her own level.

Winfried Mortelmans, Managing Director at VAN IN, comments: “Bingel supports teachers in personalised education. Teachers can prepare suitable exercises for each class or for each pupil. The system is also easy and user-friendly. Since bingel corrects the completed exercises automatically, we try to give teachers more time to concentrate on the essence of teaching.”

Digital (r)evolution

In 2011, VAN IN, which specialises in the development of educational teaching tools, launched the online exercise platform  bingel - one floating and sunny green island where primary school pupils can practise their subject matter voluntarily or as an exercise. From this school year onwards, the bingel world has six islands, one for each school year. Bingel includes thousands of series of exercises, which link up seamlessly with the taught subject matter. The online exercise platform, which is used both at home and in class, helps to improve learning outcomes and has quickly grown into a digital revolution in Flemish education.
