Sanoma Corporation, Stock Exchange Release, 27 May 2013 at 14:30 CET+1

Riikka Venäläinen will serve as Acting Editor-in-Chief as of 27 May 2013.

Mikael Pentikäinen will leave his position as the Senior Editor-in-Chief of Helsingin Sanomat.

“The overall renewal of Helsingin Sanomat the past year has shown that we are on the right path when it comes to developing the media brand. The next phase will require faster pace and new kind of thinking,” says Harri-Pekka Kaukonen, President and CEO of Sanoma.

The future strategy of Helsingin Sanomat is multi-channeled and customer-centric: readers have access to relevant content however and whenever they wish.

”We strongly believe that high-quality journalism will continue to play a significant role in peoples’ lives in the future. We have to continue to develop our content and deepen the relationship with our readers, their experience is the most important indicator of success,” comments Pekka Soini, the CEO of Sanoma News.

The current Editor-in-Chief Riikka Venäläinen, returning from a parental leave, will take over as the acting Senior Editor-in-Chief until a permanent successor has been chosen. Venäläinen played an important role in the overall renewal of Helsingin Sanomat. In the process of finding the permanent successor, Sanoma will explore candidates from both inside and outside of the company.
