In 2007, the reading of newspapers increased in the youngest age groups in Finland according to the National Readership Survey conducted by TNS Gallup.

The reach of the top 40 newspapers included in the survey climbed to 66% in the age group of 12–19-year-olds, compared to the 64% in the previous year. Also Helsingin Sanomat grew its number of young readers.

The reading of a printed newspaper has increased even though the young are reading more and more online newspapers at the same time. Newspapers have taken young readers into account and developed contents and new channels to meet young readers.

"Helsingin Sanomat pays close attention to young readers and we are happy that the work we have done is also visible in the number of readers," Katariina Lyytikäinen from Helsingin Sanomat says.

From all Finns over 12 years old, the newspapers reached 81% in 2007. A year earlier the share was 82%.

National Readership Survey measures the readership of 40 national and regional printed newspapers. In 2007, over 28,000 Finns were interviewed for the survey. The survey was ordered by Finnish Audit Bureau of Circulations, Levikintarkastus Oy.

Helsingin Sanomat is part of the newspaper division Sanoma of the SanomaWSOY Group.
