Sanoma House is situated in Finlandia Park, a cultural oasis in the heart of Helsinki, north of the Helsinki railway station, beside Kiasma (the Museum of Contemporary Art) and the Music Centre.
It houses the editorial offices of Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat and Taloussanomat, among others.
Sanoma House is a translucent glass creation designed by Professor Jan Söderlund and Architect Antti-Matti Siikala. In addition to the glass facades, they paid special attention to the functionality and usability of the facilities. The generous use of glass in the design lends an openness and lightness to the building.
The first and second floors mainly consist of covered public space. The triangular basic design creates fascinating and expressive spaces. The building is divided along two diagonal axes forming pedestrian thoroughfares.
One diagonal axis opens up to the Eliel Square entrance on the western side of the railway station and heads to the Music Centre. The other starts on the second floor, from the direction of Kiasma.
