Piste - A training editorial office for school students
Piste is a joint training editorial office of Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat and Taloussanomat where students from the upper level of the comprehensive school upwards can get acquainted with the different phases of producing a story for a paper. They do not write the stories but choose them from material written, recorded and programmed in advance.
Editing is done in groups at five working points, 4-6 students in each. Each visitor will personally interview persons associated with the stories in a space set up as miniature Helsinki; the interviews are realized by means of interactive screens, video telephone booths and mobile phone, etc. Details are sought also from e-mail, Internet and the press archives. Finally the groups cooperate in selecting the right headlines, pictures and perspectives for the front page.
The maximum number of students that can work simultaneously in Piste is 30, and the minimum number is 12. Sanoma's journalists and trainees guide the groups.
