Helsingin Sanomat

Helsingin Sanomat is Finland's largest newspaper and the largest daily in the Nordic region. It was founded in 1904, following the footsteps of its predecessor, Päivälehti, which was published between 1889 and 1904. Helsingin Sanomat has a circulation of more than 400,000 and nearly one million daily readers.

Helsingin Sanomat is the leading advertising medium in Finland. In addition to the daily newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat incorporates the monthly magazine Kuukausiliite and the weekly supplement NYT, which appears on Fridays, as well as the quarterly magazine HS Teema, which focuses on one theme at a time.

HS.fi is a fast and comprehensive online news service, with news also available in English. In the autumn of 2010, Helsingin Sanomat became the first Finnish newspaper to publish an iPad version.

Helsingin Sanomat also incorporates Radio Helsinki, a local radio station focusing on quality and diversity. Radio Helsinki reaches approximately 100,000 listeners every week.

Sanoma Lehtimedia publishes the leading regional papers: Etelä-Saimaa in Lappeenranta, Kouvolan Sanomat in Kouvola, and Kymen Sanomat in the Kotka region. In addition, Sanoma Lehtimedia publishes the daily Uutisvuoksi in Imatra.

Established in 1885, Etelä-Saimaa is the Sanoma Group’s oldest newspaper. Its circulation was 31,222 in 2010, and it has approximately 73,000 readers.

Kouvolan Sanomat was established in 1909. Its circulation was 27,273 in 2010, and it has approximately 68,000 readers.

Established in 1902, Kymen Sanomat had a circulation of 23,208 in 2010. The paper has approximately 62,000 readers.

Ilta-Sanomat

Established in 1932, Ilta-Sanomat is the largest quality tabloid in Finland and the second largest newspaper after Helsingin Sanomat. With a circulation of more than 150,000, Ilta-Sanomat reaches approximately 650,000 readers. Iltasanomat.fi is one of Finland’s most popular online services, attracting more than 2 million unique visitors a week.

Ilta-Sanomat creates the topics of the day by being the quickest operator to publish news online and by offering inspiring perspectives and background stories in its print version.

In addition to a strong news stream, Ilta-Sanomat offers daily entertainment, sports, useful information and lively discussion, both in print and online. The weekend issue includes the energetic and entertaining Plus supplement. The Ilta-Sanomat TV Magazine is published on Wednesdays and sold together with the paper.

In addition, Ilta-Sanomat publishes Veikkaaja, the most widespread sports and betting weekly in Finland, as well as special magazines.

Free sheets

Metro, Finland’s third largest printed news medium, is distributed in the Helsinki metropolitan area, Lahti, Hyvinkää, Mäntsälä, Järvenpää, Kerava, Kirkkonummi and Riihimäki. Published five times a week, the free sheet reaches 263,000 daily readers. The Friday issue includes Metro Live, an events guide for the weekend.

The free sheet Vartti reaches 208,000 readers in the Helsinki metropolitan area and 385,000 readers nationally. Vartti is delivered in seven sub-editions in the Helsinki metropolitan area and in three sub-editions in Central Uusimaa. City news from Vartti and HS.fi are published on the Omakaupunki.fi local online service, which rapidly delivers a diversity of local news, phenomena and opinions.

Classifieds ads publications 

Established in 1986, Keltainen Pörssi is the largest classified ads publication in Finland. Its popular online service reaches approximately 200,000 unique visitors every week. Sanoma Baltics publishes Keltainen Pörssi in Estonia under the name Kuldne Börs.
