Sanoma Learning’s Learning business consists of eight companies which operate in seven countries all over Europe: Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Russia and Sweden. These local learning companies are among the best in their own markets. Most of them are clear market leaders.
Malmberg
Malmberg is one of the leading educational publishers in the Netherlands and publishes materials for primary, secondary and vocational education. Malmberg offers complete learning methods. Malmberg's new generation methods are an optimal mixture of paper and digital components. The methods stimulate children and youngsters to develop their talents and knowledge.
Malmberg has a leading position in mathematics and Dutch in both primary and vocational schools and an outstanding position in secondary schools in for instance biology, economics, Dutch, history and German. Malmberg employs over 270 people and is located in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. Malmberg is ISO9001/2008 certified.
Nowa Era
Nowa Era is the leading educational publisher in Poland offering publications and multimedia solutions for all levels of education – from kindergarten to upper-secondary school. Nowa Era is also the market leader in the segment of educational cartography.
Vulcan, a subsidiary of Nowa Era, is market leader in the segment of educational management software and educational software.
The majority of Nowa Era’s offering is targeted to teachers. We deliver our products and solutions also for school management and local government (Vulcan). We aim to be the leading partner offering comprehensive and proven educational solutions for the entire community.
We provide our customers with a comprehensive range of products and services. The core is still on textbooks, but we constantly widen our portfolio with new solutions. Our product and services portfolio consists of

NTK and Perfekt
The National Textbook Publishing House, Nemzeti Tankönyvkiadó (NTK), is the leading educational publisher in Hungary with a product portfolio providing learning systems to all ages in all types of schools in public education all over the country.
NTK annually publishes approx. 6 million copies of textbooks, educational tools for teachers, workbooks, e-products and various other learning tools and services. NTK’s main customers and partners are schools, teachers and parents. Perfekt provides its services for individuals and companies.
Perfekt is the leading financial-accounting training and full-scope educational service provider in Hungary. By means of its training centres located in every county, Perfekt can teach with unified quality and level in the whole country.
Perfekt provides services in both formal (within the school system) and informal (out of the school system) education: professional and vocational training, language training, competence training, accredited training, examinations and training materials.
NTK and Perfekt together employ 280 people.
Sanoma Pro
Sanoma Pro is the leading provider of learning and competence development solutions in Finland. We provide solutions, content and tools for lifelong competence development; from preliminary education to business life, from pre-schooler to managing director.
Sanoma Pro is the number one educational publisher in the Finnish market. We publish materials for K-12 (all the subjects covered by the Finnish national curricula), vocational, university level and even adult education, as well as consumer edutainment. For the vocational market and for the university levels, the focus is on languages, engineering, business studies, hospitality industries and social services. Also, a wide range of e-content is offered with almost all of the methods through an extensive website.
Sanoma Pro offers one of the largest Virtual Learning Environments for K-12 learning to schools and students. This service is called OPIT, and it was launched in 2002. At the moment there are over 170.000 active users. The success of OPIT is based on an extensive package of digital educational content, advanced social / co-working tools, and user support, which is unique in Finland.
Sanoma Pro is also Finland's leading provider of competence development solutions to the b-to-b market. We arrange over 200 training days annually for corporate professionals. We also have a licence fee based online service, reliable and constantly updated source of information for professionals. We cover a broad range of areas: finance and accounting, leadership and management, legal, sales and marketing, ICT, organizational development and wellbeing.
Sanoma Pro currently employs 220 people. The head office is located in Helsinki.
Sanoma Utbildning
Our publishing house was founded in 1993. We have always enjoyed a positive and rewarding cooperation with our authors and our customers (teachers and students), making us one of Sweden’s foremost publishing houses. We have a staff of 60 people, who are devoted and competent and publish textbooks and teaching aids within seven fields:
- Preschool and compulsory school up to the sixth year
- Social sciences and business economics
- English and modern languages
- Swedish from grade 4 of compulsory school up to upper secondary school including Swedish as a second language and Swedish for immigrants

Van In
Van In is the market leader in the educational publishing sector in Belgium. Van In publishes materials for primary, secondary, vocational and adult education, as well as for consumer markets. One of Van In’s major achievements has been the launch of an online platform for the distribution of digital educational content.
